Q. Is the Smallpox Hospital open to the Public?

A. Sadly, no. The building is not currently open to the public as it is not deemed safe for public access. Our hope is that the building will be permanently stabilized in the near future and allow for access.

Q. I’d Like to Hold a Personal Photoshoot/event within the Ruin, how do i gain access?

A. Sadly, the building is not stable enough to support access for private events or personal photo and film shoots. While we’d love to see your fashion or wedding photographs take place at the Ruin, it is simply not allowed by the State of New York at this current time. Q. CAn I at least get within the Fence that Surrounds the Ruin?

A. As the site is quite dangerous, even getting within the fence is not currently allowed. Again, our hope is that the public will be allowed within the fence and building in the near future.

Q. Who is friends of the Ruin?

A. Friends of the Ruin is a non profit organization that is advocating for a full stabilization of the Ruin with public gardens to be made available to the public, free of charge, year round.
